New Steam Vacuum Helps Eliminate Dust Mites, Other Allergens

KANSAS CITY, MO – According to one environmental Web site, (www.ehso.com/ehshome/dustmites.php), there may be tens of thousands of dust mites in your mattress. Whatever the number, dust mites are allergen-causing pests and very difficult to eliminate.

Dust mites come into your home as hitch-hikers and take up home in bedding, couches, carpet, stuffed toys and clothing. Dust mites are second only to pollen in causing allergic reaction, according to Dr. Massood Moshrefi, M&M Consulting Group,

“Dust mites are not insects, but are more closely related to spiders and ticks. It’s actually their shed skin and feces that cause an allergic reaction. Their droppings contain left-over enzymes, which the mites first used to digest humans’ skin. Contrary to popular thinking, dust mites do not live in air ducts in the home. Dust mites require approximately 70 percent relative humidity, or higher, to live. And they need food.
